"GILGAMESH" - concert for a choir, jazz trio and string quartet
"Gilgamesh" composed by Tomasz Krzyzanowski performed by CHOREA Theatre is a unique and original reading of one of the oldest surviving epic poems. This is the first full musical adaptation of the “Epic of Gilgamesh” inspired by the sound of forgotten Akkadian language and mysterious culture of Ancient Sumer.
During the concert, the audience can listen to a story of the legendary king – Gilgamesh, and his search of the secret of immortality. Vocal parts in original Akkadian language, based on the ancient texts written in cuneiform on stone tablets from the second century B.C., alternate with songs in Polish translation. In the musical layer, elements of contemporary music come together with elements of musical traditions from Middle and Far East. Polyphonic compositions give new life to mythical images, and transfer us into a distant, forgotten world full of still valid and important questions and emotions.
