Japanese butoh dance instead of choreography or dance figures – offers ‘absolute presence’, which can be achieved thanks to a dancer assuming a particular psycho-physical position, known as butoh-body (Jap. butoh-tai). It does not refer to a condition of a physical body, but rather to the attitude of the mind to the body, a kind of mind-body unity. Forest dance reveals that Greek songs, as performed by CHOREA, constitute a perfect complementation of butoh dance in the choreography of Japanese artist Kan Katsura. Although they are different in terms of aesthetics, both butoh and CHOREA, which is constantly inspired by the ancient unity of words, dance and music, are close in their attitude to an actor-dancer. In its search for new choreia, expressed with the use of the language of modern theatre, CHOREA focuses on actions which unite the expressive powers of an actor in one stream of action. The joint project of Limen Theatre, CHOREA and Kan Katsura proves once again that theatre is might be the last area where a close, direct meeting with another person is possible today. It also proves that there is some understanding that goes beyond the borders between cultures, and that body and voice can facilitate a creative cross-cultural dialogue.
The effects of common work on the project were presented for the first time during the Cross-Culture Warsaw Festival.
